Raw materials for Dairy cow feeds
Dry distiller’s grains + solubles (DDGS)
- Consider it as a excellent digestible protein and energy source for beef cattle.
- Can be high in sulfur, fat and phosphorus
- Must add limestone (calcium carbonate) to offset high phosphorus
- Limit dietary inclusion rate to less than or equal to 25% (DM basis) in feedlot rations
- Limit dietary inclusion rate to less than or equal to 6 lb/cow/day (DM basis)
- Approximately 88% TDN, 28% crude protein (DM basis)
DDGS Qualities:
--Can comprise 20-30% of the ration DM.
--Can also be used in turkey and swine applications.
--Is a valuable feed for both feedlot and dairy cattle.
In North America, over 80% of DDGS is used in ruminant diets. DDGS also is fed to Dairy Cows, Poultry. Recent studies show excellent nutritional value of DDGS in swine diets, and its use is increasing in the pork industry.
